Wealthy Women

Often when someone publishes a list about the wealthiest people in America, the focus is usually on wealthy men. Not enough attention is given to the wealthy, millionaire (or billionaire) women.  It’s surprising to note the large number of wealthy women, given the lack of attention given to them in the media.  So, I want to take some time to do so here. There are many powerful women out there whose net worth is very much in the black. I want to highlight a few of them.

1.  First is 74 year old Jacqueline Mars, co-owner and co- founder of the Mars Company – the company responsible for Snickers and Skittles.  Ms. Mars’ net worth is $20 billion.  Visit the company website (below) to see the many brands that are part of the Mars family. Some of them may surprise you.

2.  Next up is Anne Cox Chambers. This 92-year old’s family founded Cox Enterprises, the parent company of Cox Communications, the Cox Media group, the ManHeim automobile auction, and AutoTrader.com. She is still an active participant to the company’s board of directors.  She’s still quite vibrant. Mrs. Cox Chambers’s net worth is $10.7 billion.

3.  Then there’s Randa Williams, 52 year old President and CEO of Enterprise Product Partners, a Texas-based company that manages the onshore and offshore pipelines and more than 200 million barrels of crude oil. Her net worth is $5.5 billion.

4.  Next is Barbara Carlson Gage, age 71, who owns Carlson, Inc, the parent company for several hotel and restaurant businesses around the world. Some of the holdings include Radisson, T.G.I. Friday’s, and Carlson Wagonlit Travel. Her net worth is $3.9 billion.

There are obviously many more.  This is only a small, paltry sampling.  I only wanted to give attention to the fact that many women have amassed mountains of wealth, something that is often overshadowed by stories about all the wealthy men like Bill Gates, Warren Buffet, Steve Jobs, Michael Bloomberg, and Mark Zuckerberg. Our ladies are doing great things.  Let’s give them kudos too.
