The Doctor: Julius Erving

Have you seen the documentary, The Doctor, about the life of basketball great Dr. J? It’s a flick that aired last summer and highlights key aspects of his career during and prior to his NBA career. It also details some of his personal struggles away from basketball, namely the death of his father, the death of his younger brother, and the death of his youngest son. Each of these incidents happened separately at various points in his life and took their toll on his life personally and professionally.

In talking to a few of my friends who are basketball fans, they missed this film and didn’t know anything about it. It originally aired on NBA Television (I had never heard of NBA Television before now. Have you?), and the full documentary is viewable online. If you’re a basketball fan—and if you’re a Dr. J. fan, you should check out The Doctor.

About Will S.

A nouveau Taurus, writing about my view of the world around me. From politics, to social problems, to public corruption, music and movies to pretty much anything I feel inspired to write. We all need meaningful activities and hobbies to add value to our lives and take our minds away from the stress of the real world. Blogging does that for me.
