I find it amusing when people become enraged at behaviors and comments that notable/public officials make. Most recently, Cornel West made controversial comments about Ta-Nehisi Coates. I won’t restate the exact comments; you can read them for yourselves. But, when a celebrity makes controversial statements, my first thoughts are they’re nothing but publicity. Donald Trump’s criticism of Mexicans or Dr. Ben Carson’s comments about gays – or his remarks in opposition to Planned Parenthood – or the many other contentious things he says, are all in the same boat.
I’ve long thought that people who make such racy comments do so primarily to draw attention to themselves. People tend to remember you better for the bad things you do more so than the good. The media certainly gives negative news far more attention than the good, and these knuckleheads know this. Rush Limbaugh, Sarah Palin, Mel Gibson, Charlie Sheen, and Raven-Symon know it too. These folks and the many others who say or do thoughtless and insensitive things don’t seem to have much class. So, people should learn to just blink their eyes and keep moving. When you react to a fool, that’s ammunition for him to give you more of the same behavior. You have a better chance of a fool going away if you just ignore him.
