Aesop Has A New Beginning in Washington, DC
I just heard about a new health and beauty shop that opened in DC. Just to clarify, the store isn’t new; it’s just new to DC. The store specializes in skin, hair, and full body care including soaps, sprays, and body wash and aroma splashes. Most products target women but some items are for men; however, any of them could be used by any gender. The overarching factor is based on concern (i.e., dry, oily, sensitive, etc.).
Headquartered in Australia (Melbourne), Aesop is a 26 year old company expanding from its original focus as an online only business to a brick and mortar establishment, with sites in many locations including New York, London, Paris, Tokyo, San Francisco, and Hong Kong. The DC site is at 1924 Eighth St., NW. It’s a business that evidently is very popular but one I have never heard of before now. It has an artsy theme, with jazz music playing and attractive décor to accompany it, and from what I have been told, the special treatment you get from the store associates. But some people might say that you should expect special treatment, as the products are quite pricey in my opinion. A small, 2.0 ounce jar of Elemental Facial Barrier Cream – which the Aesop website describes as a skin barrier and moisturizer – costs $60.
Before now, I never knew anything about our skin’s barrier. If you’re like me and you also don’t know, let me share the results of the research I did. Here it is in a nutshell. Look at that brick wall. The grout between the bricks is tantamount to the barrier. It is the foundation, the protection, for the wall. The barrier serves the same purpose for your skin. I don’t know whether I’d advocate paying $60 for such a small amount. Avon has a comparable product for $10. Avon has been in business for 130 years, so, longevity has it place here and speaks to the company’s reputation.
But if you have a little extra cash, why not splurge a little. We all need to do that sometimes to make ourselves feel special.
